If done correctly, your website can solve problems for your clients. Think of your website as an employee that works for you 24/7. It’s a beautifully designed, strategic system that does all of the heavy lifting for you. I’m going to go through the process of getting it there step-by-step.
Be Clear On Who You Are, What You Offer, And Your Audience
Lets say you’re a business coach and you work with women entrepreneurs who want to make their first $1,000 in their business. While there are hundreds to thousands of other business coaches, none of them are you. That’s what separates you from your competitors. Be clear and honest with yourself and audience about who you are.
Next you should get clear on your audience. What kind of person do you want to work with? Think about this long and hard. This is called creating your client’s avatar. What do they look like? Where do they hang out? What do they enjoy doing in their spare time?
To help you get unstuck, you should serve only ONE audience.
Yes, ONLY ONE.
You may ask why is that?
If you have a brand that serves more than one audience, it can confuse people and your brand. It also confuses you. Narrow down the kind of person you are the most passionate about working with and center your services on what they need. I’ve had to get clear on this myself. I went from only wanting to work with educational and nonprofit organizations to realizing that I’m the most passionate about serving women entrepreneurs who want to up level their online brand and make more money in their business.
Now you may be one who owns multiple businesses and you serve more than one audience. I can tell you from my personal experience that with owning more than one business, SOMETHING is going to LACK! It’s really difficult to give your all into many than just one. Again, it also confuses you and your audience. I suggest focusing on the one business that you’re the most passionate about and brand the hell out of that.
Finally, once you’ve narrowed down your audience, you should have a niche. Your niche is an offer that is specific to your audience. If you’re a business coach that helps women entrepreneurs make their first $1,000 in their business, your services should be focused on helping women launch their business. The problem that you solve is helping women business owners launch their business and coach them on how they can get their first client and make $1,000.
I bet you’re wondering, “This is all great, but what does it have to do with my website?”
Honey, it has everything to do with it!
If you’re not 100% solid on your defining your purpose, then you’ll end up with a website that’s thrown together with your about page that reads like a high school autobiography, lack-luster services and a weak call-to-action. It’s not specific to any audience and would appear all over the place.
Trying to help everyone and doing everything helps no one and doesn’t make you any damn money.
Freebie, Content Creation, And Upgrades
A freebie is free information that is your niche and speaks to your target audience. This freebie should entice your audience enough to want to give you their name and email address to retrieve it (more on that later).
You freebie can be in any format you choose:

“5 Things You Need to Attract Your First Client”
“25 Business Ideas You Can Do to Make Your First $1,000”

You get the idea.
Once you’ve narrowed down your freebie, you should start creating loads of content. I like to call it, get ya content up! There is no better way to do that than blogging!
You should write a new blog post at least once a week.
Why so often? Think about it like this.
Every time you write a new blog post, your name and ideas are being automatically indexed into search engines. If you write a new post once a week, that’s 52 more x’s someone looking for your services will be able to find you.
Here’s a tip: Write strategic posts that lead into some kind of offer, whether paid or free. Most of my posts lead into scheduling a free 30-minute strategy session.

Another strategy is to produce content upgrades. For every blog post you write and publish, you can have a free offer for EACH blog post. Just to give you a quick example: lets say you wrote a blog post entitled “3 Things You Need to Attract Your First Client” your content upgrade can be a continuation of that post to help them further. Creating a mini workbook entitled “The Blueprint to Launch Your Business” and offering that for free at the end of your blog post in exchange for their email address is a great way to attract more quality leads that you wouldn’t have otherwise.
If you already have a blog with a lot of content, check your website traffic statistics or Google analytics. Start by selecting the top five blog posts that have the most traffic and create content upgrades for each post. I can assure you this is another great way to attract people who are interested in what you have to say and would be more than likely to purchase from you in the future.
The Science To A Profitable Email List And Automation
An email list is what it says: a list of potential and existing clients who are interested in what you have to offer.
The best and easiest way to build a profitable email list is to nurture and love on your subscribers. Do this by giving them the absolutely BEST and exclusive information. Tap into their pain points and help them solve problems by sharing great content.
Content creation is great, but you have to do a lot more than write a blog post. Sharing posts with your email subscribers and always giving them more is what’s gold. Focus on giving tons of information for free and not selling them into anything.
The key to building a profitable email list is to establish a relationship from the beginning. When someone signs up for your freebie, they’ll enter their name and email address. Before that happens, you should already have an email series automated into your email marketing system. Your email series should have language that speaks to your audience and let them know who you are, who you serve and what you can offer them.
To set this up, you’ll need to sign up for an email marketing system like MailChimp, Aweber, or Get Response. Then, you’ll automate your emails so that no matter when they sign up for your free offer, they’ll automatically receive it.
This is also the beginning stages of making your website work for you 24/7, generating money while you sleep.
For many, this can get a bit confusing. The whole automation part can be a headache if you’re new to building an email list. Automation is important and the key to making money while you sleep.
You should automate everything in your online business if you want to keep from working on every single little thing all of the time. If you’re reading this right now, guess what? I didn’t JUST send it to you. I wrote the content and set up the email series into MailChimp Automation Workflow.

Your brand is a representation of who you are, your style, and how you run things in your business. Your personal brand is what separates you from the competition. It’s what will attract the kind of clients who truly want to work with.
Web design and personal branding go hand in hand. To design a brand that represents you, start by creating a style guide. What colors do you like? What mood do you want to set when someone goes to your website? How do you want people to FEEL when they read a blog post or your about page? What style fonts do you want to go with?

People (especially women) buy based on how they feel. If your website design brilliantly makes your potential clients feel like you can help them solve their problem, you’ve got a real moneymaker.
To go deeper, let’s talk briefly about WordPress and why you need it in order to have a great website.

You’re leaving thousands of dollars on the table if you’re not using WordPress as the platform for your website. Why? Because WordPress is the most search-engine friendly content management system (CMS). Whenever you publish content on WordPress, it is automatically optimized for search engines.
There are an average of 3.5 BILLION searches on Google PER DAY! you have something to offer anyone in this world. If your website is powered by WordPress, you have a great chance of someone finding your products/services than if you used another platform.
Bottom line: use WordPress and nothing else.
Social Media Marketing The Right Way
This one is a no-brainer. Simply put, your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. Think about how you want to engage with your audience and increase your visibility. How you interact with your audience is who you are a person. Once you’re clear on who you are, what you offer, and the kind of clients you serve, get out there!
The best way to connect is to tell a story. Don’t just put stuff out there; tell a story as a way to engage your audience. Avenues that you can use are webinars/teleseminars, live workshops and events, and of course social media. Think about the kind of social media platforms your ideal clients are located and put yourself out there. You can’t serve them to your genius level if they don’t know you exist.
Maybe you’ve been trying to market on social media and feel lost. I know I have. This is why it’s important to get clear on (once again) who you are, your audience, and what you offer. Then focus on promoting where your ideal clients are primarily.
To make it easier for you, Facebook should be the number one platform! Everybody and their mama are on Facebook.
The quickest way to generate traffic and attract quality leads FAST is by investing into Facebook ads. Facebook only shows your posts to 4% of the number of people who “liked” your page. So, if you have 1,000 Facebook fans, only 40 of them will see your posts.
Investing in Facebook ads is crucial to building an audience and attracting potential clients quickly. To do this, you’d want to promote your freebie everyday so that new people can sign up for it and immediately begin receiving your email series. If done correctly, you’ll make your website profitable and literally make money while you’re getting your good night’s rest!
